Official manufacturer service records

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about our service history checking service

What is ServiceStamp?

ServiceStamp is a specialized service history checking service. We retrieve the records the manufacturer holds for a vehicle, as reported by its dealer service departments, from the 17-character VIN. You get an instant digital report showing service dates, odometer readings, service types and the specific maintenance actions performed.

What information is included in the report?

Our reports include official manufacturer dealership service records with the following details:

  • Service dates for each maintenance event
  • Odometer reading at each service
  • Types of service performed
  • Specific service actions and work completed
  • The dealer that performed each service
  • Vehicle information verified from manufacturer records

Reports cover vehicles from model year 2012 onwards across 9 supported brands. Some brands return every service on record; others share dealer workshop remarks, and the coverage tier is shown before you pay.

What do you check?

ServiceStamp provides the service records manufacturers hold for their vehicles:

  • Manufacturer service records - From the manufacturer's own system, as reported by its dealers

We do NOT provide:

  • Independent repair shop records - We can't pull records from independent shops' own systems
  • Body shop or repair records - Accident or damage history
  • Title, lien, accident or theft records - Those come from a vehicle history report, which is a different product

Which car brands are covered?

We cover 9 brands:

  • Full service records: BMW, MINI and Porsche
  • Dealer workshop remarks, including recalls and warranty work: Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep, Kia, Polestar and Volvo

See the manufacturers page for the coverage tier and an example report for each brand.

Which vehicles are eligible?

We cover vehicles sold in the United States from the brands above, model year 2012 onwards: cars, SUVs and light trucks.

We check the make and model year from the VIN before you pay, so you are never charged for a vehicle we can't check.

How quickly will I receive my report?

Reports are generated straight after payment, usually within seconds and occasionally up to about five minutes for some manufacturers. You'll receive an email with a unique URL the moment it's ready, and the order page shows live progress while you wait.

How long can I access my report?

Your report stays available with lifetime access through the unique URL provided after purchase and your dashboard, for as long as ServiceStamp operates. No account or login is required for the URL. If we ever discontinued the service we would email you at least 60 days ahead so you could download your reports first. You can download the PDF anytime and store it with the car's paperwork.

How much does it cost?

Every check is a one-time fee with instant report generation and lifetime access. There are no subscriptions and no recurring fees. The price you see is the total you pay.

Is my payment secure?

Yes, absolutely. All payments are processed through Stripe, the industry standard for secure online payments. Stripe uses bank-level encryption and is PCI DSS Level 1 certified (the highest security standard). We never see or store your full card details - Stripe handles all payment information securely. Your transaction is protected with the same security used by major banks and companies worldwide.

What if no service history is found?

If the manufacturer holds no records for the VIN, the report says so plainly and still shows the vehicle details. As stated at checkout, the $14.99 is not refunded in that case.

Zero dealer service records can occur if the vehicle was serviced at independent repair shops, is relatively new, or the records haven't been digitized. A dated zero-record result is itself useful when evaluating a used vehicle.

See our detailed Refund Policy for complete information.

Can I get a refund?

Refunds are automatic when we can't produce your report:

  • The manufacturer's system was unavailable or returned an error
  • A technical problem stopped the report from completing

No refund if:

  • The report was produced, including when the manufacturer holds no records for the VIN (as stated at checkout)
  • You entered the wrong VIN
  • You changed your mind after viewing the report
  • You misunderstood the product scope, for example expecting title, lien or accident data (that is a vehicle history report, a different product)

Made a duplicate purchase by mistake? Use our contact form and we'll sort it out. Read our full refund policy for details.

How do I find my VIN number?

Your VIN (Vehicle Identification Number) is a unique 17-character code. You can find it in several locations:

  • Windshield: On the plate at the base of the windshield on the driver's side, readable from outside
  • Driver's door jamb: On the sticker where the door latches
  • Title or registration card: Listed as the VIN
  • Insurance card: Your insurance ID card lists the VIN

Format: VINs are exactly 17 characters (letters and numbers, never I, O or Q, to avoid confusion with 1 and 0). Example: 5UXTR9C54KLL52318.

What years are covered?

We cover vehicles from model year 2012 onwards, which is when most manufacturers moved to digital service records. Coverage varies by manufacturer, and older vehicles may have limited or no digital records because they relied on paper booklets.

Do you check independent repair shop records?

No. Independent shops don't feed into the manufacturer's system, so we can't pull records from them. ServiceStamp checks the records the manufacturer holds, as reported by its dealer service departments. A vehicle serviced at an independent shop may show no records, which doesn't mean it hasn't been maintained.

What if I entered the wrong VIN?

If you enter the wrong VIN and we produce a report for that VIN, we cannot offer a refund: the service was delivered for the identifier you submitted. We confirm the make and model year before payment, so check that they match the vehicle.

Prevention tips:

  • Double-check the VIN before submitting
  • VINs are exactly 17 characters (never contain I, O, or Q)
  • Compare your entry with the title or door-jamb sticker character by character

If you realize the error before viewing the report, contact us immediately - we may be able to help.

Can I check multiple vehicles?

Yes. Each report is $14.99 per VIN, with no limit on how many vehicles you check. If you're a dealer or comparing several vehicles, purchase a report for each VIN; each one gives lifetime access through its own unique URL.

What happens to my personal data?

We take data privacy seriously. Here's what we collect and why:

  • Email Address: To send your report and order confirmation
  • VIN: To query the manufacturer's system
  • Payment Info: Processed securely by Stripe (we don't store your card details)

Your data is:

  • Stored securely in encrypted databases
  • Never sold or shared with third parties for marketing
  • Retained to provide lifetime report access
  • Protected by industry-standard security measures

Read our full Privacy Policy for complete details on data handling and your rights.

Can I delete my data?

Yes. Contact us through our contact form to request deletion of your personal data. We may need to keep some order records for tax and accounting purposes, but we'll delete everything else.
